Frequently Asked Questions
Does insurance cover your appointments?
Insurance covers all medical and genetic
counseling appointments.
What types of patients do you normally see?
I see newly diagnosed cancer patients and their
families, patients who are concerned about their risk of breast cancer, and
people who desire a healthcare advocate to help clarify the specific needs
of the patient. I am privileged to help many patients and families with end
of life issues. I also aid patients with career and/or family burnout, mild
depression, and adjustment and transition issues.
What types of clients do you normally see?
My coaching clients are motivated and
intelligent and either want, need or have to change one or many aspects of
their life.
What is coaching or life coaching?
I trained at The Coaches Training Institute and
I wholeheartedly believe in their response: "CTI coaching holds that people
are naturally creative, resourceful and whole - completely capable of
finding their own answers to whatever challenges they face. The job of a
Co-Active Coach® is to ask powerful questions, listen and empower to elicit
the skills and creativity a client already possesses, rather than instruct
or advise."
Coaching allows people to live life in accordance with their values. It is
often done for weight loss, job change, recent diagnosis, hospice,
relationship issues as well as for improving one's life.
Coaching is done most commonly on the phone in 2-3 one hour sessions per
month.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Coaching is based on your present life and
getting to the future that you want. Therapy is about healing the past to be
more comfortable in the present. Yes, sometimes these areas do overlap. I have professional training in
coaching and therapy.
What is your consulting business?
Dr. Bennett is an expert in genetic testing. She
counsels people who may have inherited forms of cancer. She also travels
the United States teaching other surgeons, physicians and health care
providers regarding who and how to test for genetic-related cancers.
Where will we meet?
If you live in the South Coast Massachusetts
region I am happy to meet with you locally. I also do much of my work,
especially the coaching and some of the healthcare advocacy, on the phone.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are in general about 45 to 60 minutes
long, however there is no time limit on how much time I can spend with you
or your family. I take whatever time is needed for each patient and client. No more
rushing through 20-40 patients per day! Each patient and client gets
individual attention.
Can you write prescriptions?
Yes.
Can you help with hospice care?
I can work with you and hospice to help you
through end of life issues.
